About Western Great Lakes Akita Rescue (WGLAR)

Western Great Lakes Akita Rescue (WGLAR), is a 501(c)3 Not For Profit Organization dedicated to the rescue, care, placement, and overall well being of Akitas in need.

Staffed entirely by volunteers, our mission is to save, heal, and ultimately rehome unwanted Akitas. Through the use of foster homes, volunteer services, and a careful adoption process, WGLAR strives to enhance the lifes of these regal animals who find themselves unwanted, abandoned, or abused by previous 'owners'.

An additional goal of the organization is to share valuable information and insights regarding the breed with owners, potential owners, or other interested parties. This information can help maximize the joy that can only be experienced by succesfully integrating an Akita into the family.
